Kenyan fitness personality and boxer Gachau has opened up emotionally about the frightening moments that followed his Vurugu 2 boxing bout, revealing that much of what happened immediately after the fight was later narrated back to him because he was struggling physically at the time.
Speaking during an interview on Iko Nini TV podcast, Gachau reflected on the aftermath of the contest and became emotional while describing the support he received from family, friends and fans across the country.
The bodybuilder-turned-boxer was hospitalised after suffering a sixth-round technical knockout defeat during the heavyweight exhibition fight at Vurugu 2 in Nairobi. Medical teams attended to him immediately before he was transferred for further treatment.

During the interview, Gachau said he only realised the scale of concern later after hearing accounts from those around him.
“I was asleep, and people were waking up and reacting. Man, thank you so much.”
He said his wife later told him she had not realised the extent to which people cared about him.
“My wife kept telling me, ‘You do not know how much people love you.’ It was something very powerful. I am grateful.”
Concern spread quickly, and people close to him moved urgently to help.
He recalled being told that people reacted immediately once news of his condition emerged.
“People went all out. Jamoh came asking why Gachau’s car was being driven like that. Everything was chaotic.”
Confusion and a difficult journey to treatment
Gachau explained that his understanding of events came largely from what others later told him because he was focused on staying conscious and breathing.
“I was being told the story afterwards. During all that time, I was struggling to breathe.”
He added that there was confusion even during the transfer process.
“The ambulance team did not even know which floor to go to. At some point, I had to be carried down.”
Reflecting on the physical impact of the fight, Gachau said he knew the danger involved and felt he had absorbed blows in areas that left him in serious discomfort.
“I know it was dangerous. I was pushed where I should not have been pushed.”
Medical examinations later showed that he had sustained a minor liver injury, although scans reportedly confirmed there was no serious internal damage, and he was discharged after observation.
