A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died after drowning in a shallow water dam near his family’s home in Gathiriga village, Kipipiri subounty, Nyandarua county.

The child is reported to have wandered from home while trying to look for his mother before falling into the nearby dam on Saturday.

The child’s body was found with no visible physical injuries, consistent with a suspected drowning.

The body was moved to Engineer County Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to confirm the cause of death.

Police have documented the incident, and investigations are continuing, although no foul play is suspected at this stage.

And police in Nyamira South subcounty are investigating a suspected murder and arson incident after the body of a 22-year-old man was discovered in a pool of water at Sironga village, Ibucha sublocation.

Police officers from Kiambere responded to the scene where they recovered the body of Eric Bange Sambu, a 22-year-old Kisii man.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was last seen on June 19, 2026, at around 9:00 pm at a bar in Sironga Shopping Centre. The bar has since been set ablaze by irate members of the public following the incident.

Investigators established that an altercation allegedly occurred at the bar, after which the victim is believed to have been murdered and his body dragged about one kilometre from the scene. The bar owner has since gone missing.

Both the murder scene and the fire scene were documented and processed by Crime Scene Investigators from Nyamira.

The body, which had multiple injuries, was moved to Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into both the killing and the arson, as efforts continue to trace the suspects involved.

Meanwhile, police in Mutuati subcounty, Meru county,are investigating a murder incident in which a 45-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a confrontation at a local hotel.

Witnesses said the incident occurred the previous night at around 11:00 p.m. at a hotel in Karicho village within Kamao area, where a dispute broke out between the assailant and Munene Kaliunga.

Police said the altercation escalated into a fight during which the nephew allegedly stabbed the deceased in the chest with a knife.

Police visited the scene and confirmed that the body of Fredrick Kaliunga was lying inside the hotel in a supine position with a visible deep stab wound to the chest.

The scene was processed and documented by crime scene investigators before the body was moved to Nyambene Hospital Mortuary for preservation and post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.

Elsewhere, a 30-year-old woman was found dead in her rental house in Kihunguro, Ruiru Sub-County, Kiambu county, a day after members of the public reportedly helped her home when she became intoxicated.

The deceased, identified as Jane Njeri Ndungu, was found unresponsive in her bed on Saturday, prompting her family to alert police.

According to her mother, Jane had struggled with excessive alcohol consumption and had previously been advised by a doctor to stop drinking because of its effects on her health. However, she reportedly continued with the habit.

On the night before her death, she was found lying by the roadside in an intoxicated state. Good Samaritans reportedly assisted her to walk back to her house.

She was discovered dead in her bed the following day.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death, while
