Residents of Koguta location in Ndhiwa sub- county are living in fear following increased attacks on livestock by hyenas.
The attacks have allegedly become frequent over the past two months, affecting several villages including Ondati, Kowuor, Katombo, Kobita, Kamenya and Kaguria.
Over the weekend, the hyenas invaded two homesteads and killed several goats and sheep, leaving farmers counting losses.
Koguta Chief, George Awuoche, confirmed receiving multiple complaints from villagers whose livestock have been mauled by the canines.
“The hyenas strike mostly at night. I have had reports of attacks on a weekly basis and this menace is disrupting normal life in the area,” he said.
Awuoche warned that the situation could get worse if urgent measures are not taken, noting that residents now fear possible attacks on people.
He urged livestock owners to avoid leaving animals in the open at night and encouraged them to construct secure animal pens to protect their livestock from further attacks.
