Several residents of Waruku in Nairobi have been left homeless after a fire razed their houses on Monday night.
The fire is believed to have been ignited by a gas cylinder that was burning in one of the affected houses, police said.
The fire started after an explosion from the gas cylinder, police and locals said, adding it spread fast to other structures, burning down at least 11 shops, 20 rental houses and other structures.
It was later contained, and officials said no injuries were reported.
In a different incident, a fire burnt down structures at an industry in Kariobangi, leaving the owner counting heavy losses.
Other residents lost businesses in the fire that broke out Tuesday morning.
Emergency responders worked to contain the massive fire, which left property valued at millions of shillings razed.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud said they were investigating the cause of the fire.
He said no injuries were reported, but locals lost valuables.
The fire was later contained after hours of fighting by fire engines.
The incident was among almost six fire cases reported on Monday night and Tuesday morning, police said.
In Makongeni area, Nairobi, a structure was burnt down in a fire incident.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, police said of the Monday night incident.
In Savana, Nairobi, several structures were also burnt down.
The incident happened near a garage in the area. Police said no injuries were reported, but property of unknown value was destroyed.
Elsewhere, police in Matungu, Kakamega county are investigating an incident where a house was burnt down in an arson incident.
Police linked the incident to a family dispute, adding no arrest had been made.
The matter is pending under probe, police said on Tuesday.
In Silibwet, Bomet county, a suspect was arrested after setting his house on fire. Police said they were yet to establish the motive of the incident.
In Ndeffo, Nakuru county, a house was burnt down in a fire incident. Police said they were yet to establish the cause of the incident, adding no injuries were reported.
And a team was sent to Watamu, Kilifi County to investigate a fire incident that burnt down several villas and cars. Several restaurants were also affected in the Monday morning incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be known. Experts were sent to the scene to help in solving it, police said.
