Crime sceneDetectives in Bungoma county have reopened investigations into the death of a woman initially reported as suicide after a postmortem examination pointed to murder.
The deceased, Abigail Nafula alias Abby, was married to a military officer.
According to police, a postmortem conducted at Webuye Sub-County Hospital established that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation and a fractured cervical vertebra (atlas), injuries linked to trauma.
Investigators said the findings effectively ruled out suicide, prompting detectives to reclassify the case as murder.
No arrest had been made by Thursday but a team of detectives is pursuing various leads into the same.
Elsewhere, police in Kisii county upgraded an assault case to murder after a man who was allegedly attacked by a group of people over a domestic dispute succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
The deceased, identified as Ronald Asiago, reportedly came under attack on the night of May 11 while walking home from a neighbour’s funeral at Kabosi village in Ibeno location.
According to police, the victim was confronted by five men allegedly armed with pangas and rungus following a disagreement linked to a domestic issue.
He sustained serious injuries to the head and back during the assault.
Police said four suspects were arrested and later arraigned before the Kisii Chief Magistrate’s Court on May 15 in connection with the assault case. They are currently being held at Kisii GK Main Prison.
A fifth suspect remains at large, with detectives continuing efforts to trace and arrest him.
Ronald Asiago, who had been admitted to Nyangena Hospital for treatment on May 14, died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.
His body was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.
Police said the initial assault case was amended to murder.
And police in Nyamira county are investigating the murder of a 41-year-old man whose body was found dumped along a footpath in a tea plantation.
The incident was reported on Wednesday afternoon within the jurisdiction of Magwagwa police station in Nyamira North subcounty.
A team of police visited the scene and found the body of Nathan Abima Nyakata lying on the ground with multiple injuries.
Police said the deceased had visible injuries on the neck, head and right elbow, with blood oozing from the ears, nose and mouth.
The scene was documented and processed before preliminary investigations suggested the victim may have been killed elsewhere and his body later dumped at the tea plantation.
The body was moved to Bethelehem Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, police in Vihiga county have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found by the roadside in Emuhaya subcounty.
The body was discovered on Wednesday morning at Alupeku area within Ipali location.
Police said the deceased, an unknown adult male, was found lying lifeless beside the road with deep cuts on the head and another cut on the left leg, indicating he may have been attacked before his death.
Crime scene personnel processed the area before the body was moved to Yala Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examination.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
