Tragedy was reported after a construction worker died and two others were injured when a lift scaffold collapsed at a construction site in Nairobi’s Brookside area.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 9am on Monday, May 18.
The three workers were reportedly operating on a lift scaffold on the 14th floor when it gave way and collapsed.
The deceased was identified as Dominic Owino Ouma, 33, who sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
He was rushed to MP Shah Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
The two injured workers suffered varying degrees of injury, with one sustaining a dislocated left leg and being taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, while another suffered a serious injury to the right eye and was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital.
Police officers from Spring Valley Police Station, together with crime scene investigators from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, visited the scene and documented the area as investigations into the cause of the collapse commenced.
Authorities said a progress report on the incident will be issued in due course.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old farmhand died after falling from an avocado tree in Bungoma County’s Kimaeti Sub-County.
Police said the incident was reported at Myanga Police Station on Sunday, May 18, after the worker reportedly fell while carrying out farm duties.
Officers who visited the scene found the body of Kelvin Wafula lying beneath an avocado tree on a farm.
Preliminary findings indicated that he had fallen from a height estimated at about 20 feet and died on the spot.
Police noted that the deceased sustained visible injuries on both legs.
The deceased, a resident of Nambale Sub-County in Busia County, was reportedly employed as a farmhand by a local farmer identified as Isaac.
Crime scene personnel documented and photographed the scene before the body was moved to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere in Athi River, Machakos County, police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old casual worker following an industrial accident at a cement factory.
According to police, the victim, identified as Felix Kipchumba Yego, was working at the factory under a contractor when the incident occurred over the weekend.
Investigators said the deceased was servicing the factory’s bucket elevator at rooftop level, approximately 36 metres high, when the equipment reportedly collapsed and trapped him inside.
Factory management later retrieved him at around 3:20pm while unconscious and rushed him to Kitengela Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers who visited the scene established that the deceased had sustained visible head injuries and a fractured left arm at the humerus bone.
Crime scene investigators processed the area before the body was transferred to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.
Investigations into the workplace accident are ongoing.
