Vitality Health International (Africa) has officially rebranded as Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions, a move aimed at expanding its employer-focused healthcare services in Kenya and across the African continent.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks an evolution of the company’s health insurance business, which integrates medical coverage with the Vitality wellness programme.
As part of the transition, the company confirmed it will maintain its long-standing partnership with local underwriter APA Insurance.
The collaboration, which started in 2022, serves as the operational foundation for the company's Kenyan operations.
"Our partnership with APA Insurance has been instrumental to enabling our expansion in Kenya," said Emma Knox, CEO of Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions. "Their strong local presence and operational scale have allowed us to focus on extending our offering."
Ashok Shah, CEO of APA Insurance, echoed the sentiment, stating that the continued collaboration aims to improve service delivery and stability for local clients and their families.
The rebranding coincides with the introduction of new service capabilities designed to meet changing employer demands.
Among the new offerings is an Administration Services Only (ASO) option, which provides clients with a fully managed healthcare administration solution rather than standard fully-insured coverage.
According to Knox, the strategy moving forward relies on a dual approach towards maintaining the existing operating model of partnering with local insurers within individual African markets and expanding into broader managed-care and administrative solutions to provide more flexible coverage options for corporate clients.
The restructured entity will continue to draw on the infrastructure of its parent company, Discovery Health, which operates as South Africa’s largest medical aid administrator and managed care service provider.
Management stated that leveraging Discovery Health’s 34 years of data platforms and clinical governance frameworks is intended to help corporate clients control costs while managing employee health outcomes.
Existing client contracts and operations are expected to transition smoothly under the new brand name without disruption to current coverage.
