Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has denied claims linking him to the brutal attack on Vihiga Senator Godffrey Osotsi.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Omollo dismissed assertions by Osotsi that he had sponsored goons to attack him, insisting he had no reason to respond to the accusations in a political manner.
“I don’t think I would want to respond to Osotsi; he is a leader, a senator, a legislator. We are a constitutional country with processes, and if anyone, not just in the name of the PS, is involved in any criminal activity, there is a process that needs to be undertaken,” Omollo said.
The Interior PS maintained that the law should be allowed to take its course without interference from politicians or individuals seeking to inflame tensions.
“If there is any evidence, then you need to involve the police. I would go to a police station, report, and follow the matter. Up to this point in time, I am not sure if anything like that has happened. Again, the police and the law allow them to deal with criminality of that nature,” he added.
Omollo also dismissed suggestions that he had political motives to orchestrate violence against the senator, saying such claims were illogical and unfounded.
“As it is, I would consider it street talk. The question is, what would be the interest of PS Omollo in attacking Senator Osotsi? What is it that Osotsi is doing that affects my work?” he posed.
The remarks come amid heightened political tension in Kisumu following the violent attack on the senator, which left him nursing serious injuries. The senator was assaulted by a group of armed youths in Kisumu in what authorities have described as a shocking incident that has drawn national attention.
He was rushed to a hospital in Kisumu, where he received emergency medical treatment before later being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised care.
Reports indicated that the attackers confronted him in public before descending on him with kicks and blows in what was described as a politically motivated assault.
The attack occurred in April 2026 after the senator had been to a barbershop and stopped at the Java restaurant. Witnesses said the attackers appeared organised and targeted the senator specifically.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations later launched investigations into the incident and arrested three suspects who were subsequently arraigned before a Kisumu court.
The incident has triggered political debate in the region, with leaders calling for calm and urging authorities to move swiftly to bring all those responsible to justice.
Osotsi had earlier publicly linked the attack to political intimidation.
