Kiss 100 FM presenter Mwalimu Rachel has opened up about her views on marriage and personal fulfilment. During a recent interview on a podcast with Alex Mwakideu, the radio veteran addressed the news of her long-time co-host, DJ Xclusive, heading for marriage.
The conversation turned to the topic of matrimony after Mwakideu noted that DJ Xclusive is currently in the process of getting married following a public engagement.
Rachel, who has shared a professional bond with the DJ for eight years, remained remarkably relaxed about her own relationship status.
Not a Priority
When asked if she feels the pressure to follow suit, Rachel was blunt about her current mindset. She explained that she does not lose sleep over the idea of getting married.
"I don't really stay up late at night thinking about that because it's not a priority," she told Mwakideu. "It's really not."
Rachel explained that she believes in the different seasons of life. She noted that if marriage happens, it will happen while she is busy pursuing her own goals and self-development.
“I’m not saying so because I don’t respect the institution of marriage, No. I just feel like God will work out his plan when the time is right. I’ve been a believer of different seasons in my life, and so I feel when its time to happen, it will happen,” she explained.
A Life Already "Full"
The broadcaster emphasized that she does not view a husband as a requirement for a complete life. She described her current existence as "full" and noted that she does not feel she is missing anything.
"I don't feel I am lacking something. There is no vacuum that needs to be filled by a husband," she added.
Rachel also touched on her expectations for any future partner. She explained that she values discipline, character, and "coming correct." She noted that she provides for herself and pampers herself, meaning a partner must bring something meaningful to the table.
Rachel’s daily routine is packed with professional and personal commitments. She is a mother to a teenage son and manages a co-parenting system that she says works.
Outside of the studio, she spends her time golfing, holidaying with friends, and running her "Book Club Brunch" events for women.
The Eight-Year Partnership
Rachel and DJ Xclusive have become one of Kenya's most recognizable radio duos. They spent five years together at a previous station before moving to Kiss 100 FM three years ago.
Rachel jokingly referred to their long-term working relationship as "the marriage I never wanted."
Despite the joke, she spoke highly of the synergy they share. She noted that she values professional loyalty but also knows how to pivot when a season comes to an end.
