Robert Agengo is a well-known name in the African film industry, having spent over 22 years honing his craft. During a recent and candid appearance on the Alex Mwakideu TV YouTube channel, the veteran actor shared rare details about his family life and his unconventional views on marriage.
Five Mothers, Six Children
The conversation took a personal turn when the topic of fatherhood arose. Agengo confirmed that he currently has six children. He clarified the family structure, explaining that these children are from five different mothers.
“I have 6 children, the first born is in college and the two last borns were born in 2019, though they are not twins,” he said while showing their names which he has tattooed on his left hand.
One mother has two children with the actor. The remaining four children each have different mothers. Agengo famously described his situation by saying he has "five firstborns," as five different women each had their first child with him.
“I have one second born and 5 first borns. It is just life. There is no specific system; I can only speak for myself,” he added.
The Stance on Marriage
Despite his large family, Agengo is firm about his relationship status. He stated clearly that he does not intend to get married. He believes that living apart from his partners helps maintain a sense of peace.
He noted that even in long-term relationships, he prefers the idea of each person having their own space. According to Agengo, constant proximity can sometimes lead to unnecessary conflict, and he finds the current arrangement more sustainable for his lifestyle.
Two Decades in the Spotlight
Agengo’s career began in 2004 at the Kenya National Theatre. Since then, he has appeared in numerous high-profile projects, including the Netflix film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and the award-winning 40 Sticks.
He reflected on the early days of his career, mentioning that he once earned as little as 700 Shillings as a film extra. Agengo has also starred in popular television series such as Zora and Sue na Jonnie, further cementing his status as a household name.
Focusing on the Craft
While he manages his responsibilities as a father, Agengo remains deeply committed to his work. He supports his children by collaborating with their mothers on school fees and other expenses.
He admits that he did not necessarily "plan" to have six children, but he loves them all and welcomes them into his life.
