Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is seeking to hire a substantive County Secretary and Head of Public Service for the first time during his tenure.
This is after the Nairobi County Public Service Board (CPSB) advertised the vacancy that has been held on an acting capacity.
Currently, chief officer for housing and urban renewal Godfrey Atiel is holding the position having taken over from Patrick Analo, who is the chief officer for planning.
In the advert appearing in Today’s print media, the CPSB has asked qualified and interested persons to put their applications by Thursday, May 28.
The city county is looking for a person with a degree from a university recognised in Kenya and has at least 10 years’ relevant professional experience.
“Must have at least five years’ experience in a leadership position at senior management level in a public service or private sector,” the advert sates adding that he/she must meet the requirement of chapter six of the constitutions on leadership and integrity.
The county secretary will be tasked with arranging business and keeping the minutes of the county executive committee meetings, convey the decisions of county cabinet to appropriate persons or authorities.
“The CS will interpret, disseminate and oversee the implementation of county government policies, provide direction and guidelines to the public officers and perform any other functions directed by the Governor,” it says.
Akumali hit the road running by reporting to his new work station and meeting with staff soon after being named in acting capacity in August 2024.
“I am grateful to the governor of this great city, Hon Sakaja Johnson for entrusting me with this responsibility. I will serve to the best of my ability," he said.
“I also look forward to working with various teams in ensuring the county government delivers its mandate to Nairobi residents. Service delivery and efficiency will be one of my key deliverables.”
While handing over to Akumali on August 13, 2024 Analo thanked Sakaja for the appointment describing the service as a honour.
“I most sincerely wish to thank Governor Sakaja Johnson for the trust and confidence he bestowed upon me so much to have appointed me to serve as county secretary over the last one year & and a couple of months. It is a position I served with lots of honour, commitment and dedication every day. Words cannot be enough to describe the appreciation and humility,” Analo said.
