Rescue efforts are ongoing following a rockfall incident at Rumos Hills where community members had been engaged in informal gold mining activities.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, sounds are still being heard from beneath the collapsed site, heightening fears that more people could be trapped underground.
The incident has so far left 11 people injured, with three reported to be in critical condition. The critically injured victims were rushed to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for specialised treatment.
Kenya Red Cross first responders are currently at the scene supporting rescue and emergency response efforts alongside local authorities and members of the community.
The collapse has once again highlighted the dangers associated with informal mining activities, which are common in parts of West Pokot County.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of people who may still be trapped as rescue operations continue.
