ODM, leaders mourn death of Nyando MP Jared Okello's mother, Mama Doris

Nyando MP Jared Okello is bereaved after losing his mother, Mama Doris Okello, who passed away on Tuesday night at the Karen Hospital where she was admitted.

Following the demise, leaders and his ODM party poured messages of condolences to the family of the legislator.

"Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Jared Okello, MP for Nyando and a member of our National Executive Committee (NEC), following the passing of the family matriarch, Mama Doris Okello, last night. We pray to God to guide the family and give them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time of grief. May the soul of Mama Doris rest in peace,” ODM said in a statement.

The late Mama Doris was described as a devout Christian who was committed to her faith, especially service to the Otho Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church where she worshipped.

"Her life was a testament to love, humility, faith, and service. My brother Jared Okello, I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your dear mother. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you, your family, and all who were blessed to know her," Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi describe the late matriarch as a woman of great generosity and humility, recalling his personal interactions with her as impactful and inspiring.

“I condole with MP Jared Okello and his family on the passing of his beloved mother, Mama Doris Okello. I had the privilege to interact with Mama Doris and felt her generosity and humility. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and worked with her,” CS Wandayi wrote on his social media page alongside a picture that he took with her in the past.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said, "The loss of a mother is a profound sorrow, one that touches the very core of one’s being. It is the loss of a wellspring of love, wisdom, identity, and unwavering support. With deep grief and sadness, we join MP Okello, his family, and the people of Nyando in mourning the passing of his dear mother. May her memory endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and may it be a source of strength and comfort in the days ahead."

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga said Mama Doris, affectionately known as Nyambiyo, was a woman of immense strength, wisdom, and grace adding that to lose a matriarch of her stature can be anything but easy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with MP Okelo, the entire family, and the people of Nyando during this difficult period of mourning. May the Almighty grant them the fortitude to bear this profound loss, and may Mama Doris' soul rest in eternal peace,” she said.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said; “I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jared Okello, MP for Nyando Constituency, and his family following the loss of their matriarch, Mama Doris Okello. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time, and may Mama's soul rest in peace.”
