Probe as missing man is found dead in bush in Mbooni West, Makueni County

Police are investigating murder following the discovery of the body of a man who had been reported missing in Makueni County.

The deceased, identified as David Mbiu Ngala, aged 60, had been missing since Friday, May 1, 2026, police said.

According to police, the body was discovered on Sunday morning in a bushy area at Sooni village in Kithungo sub-location by a relative who had been searching for him.

Police visited the scene and found the body lying naked in a supine position.

Police noted that the body had multiple lacerations and had begun to decompose, indicating the deceased may have been killed earlier.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Tawa mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.

Elsewhere, police in Meru County are investigating a sudden death after a 59-year-old man was found lifeless by the roadside along the Maua–Mukinduri road in Igembe South Sub-County.

The deceased, identified as Joseph Nchubiri, was discovered on Saturday evening at Amwamba location following a report by members of the public.

According to the deceased’s wife, Joseph had last been seen earlier that morning at around 9:00 a.m. while working at his shamba.

The scene was processed and documented by police before the body was moved to Nyambene Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death.

In Kalamba, Matiliku, Makueni County, police said they were investigating the recovery of human being bones.

Police said the bones were found in Nzaui Hill forest. A team of police who visited the scene said there were male clothes near the scene.

The bones were moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

And three people died in separate drowning incidents reported on Sunday. Police said the incidents were reported in Muranga, Makueni and Machakos Counties.

This has been attributed to flooding caused by heavy rains being experienced in several parts of the country.

At the weekend alone, more than 25 people were reported drowned in separate incidents, police said.

The floods have displaced dozens of people who need immediate help. The government has been running a campaign to ensure safety of those threatened by the floods especially in the Tana Delta.
