The government has expressed confidence in preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir county, citing steady progress in key infrastructure and logistics.
Speaking during an inspection tour, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo, accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru and officials from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, commended the coordinated efforts.
The delegation was received by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir, his deputy and county leadership, who have been working with the national government to deliver the event.

An inspection showed the main stadium that will host Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1 is 65–70 percent complete, with works expected to finish at least two weeks ahead of schedule.

Efforts to enhance water supply, including borehole drilling and reticulation, are underway through a partnership between the State Department for Water and the county government.

From the stadium to roads, water, and power, all key infrastructure is on course, and we are confident that Wajir will be ready ahead of time to host a successful Madaraka Day celebration,” said Omollo.

“This will be a historic moment for the people of Wajir and the entire Northern Kenya region. As a government, we are proud to take national celebrations to all parts of the country, ensuring that every region feels part of our national journey and development,” he added.
Omollo also announced exhibitions and public engagement activities ahead of June 1, aligned with this year’s theme: education, skills and the future. The government reiterated that all measures are in place, expressing confidence Wajir will successfully host the celebrations.
