President William Ruto on Friday toured Murang’a County, where he inspected ongoing affordable housing projects and outlined his administration’s broader development agenda aimed at expanding access to housing, jobs, and infrastructure across the region.

During the visit, the President said the government is investing heavily in the housing programme as part of a national plan to address urban housing demand while also creating employment opportunities for young people.

“We are investing Sh20 billion to build 6,800 affordable housing units in Murang’a County, expanding access to decent and dignified homes, and creating thousands of jobs,” Ruto stated.

The Head of State was accompanied by a host of senior leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, and other national and county officials.

As part of the tour, Ruto also laid the foundation stone for the 165-unit Kiharu Affordable Housing Project, which is expected to be part of a wider rollout of housing developments across the county.

He further noted that an additional 370 units are in the pipeline, signalling continued expansion of the programme.

The President said his administration is implementing multi-billion-shilling projects in infrastructure, energy, and social sectors.

He emphasised that housing development is not only about shelter but also about economic empowerment through job creation in construction and related industries.

Ruto also reiterated his government’s commitment to completing stalled projects.

The Murang’a tour provided an opportunity for the President to highlight ongoing national development programmes, with affordable housing emerging as one of the flagship initiatives under his administration.

The visit comes at a time when the government is intensifying implementation of housing projects across various counties, with Murang’a among the key beneficiaries under the national rollout plan.

Ruto’s engagement in Murang’a also formed part of his broader regional development tours, where he continues to inspect projects and assess progress on government programmes.
