Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and his son General Muhoozi/XUgandan President Yoweri Museveni has marked the 52nd birthday of his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, with a reflective message that blends family history, political struggle and personal gratitude.
In a statement issued on April 24, 2026, Museveni opened by expressing thanks for his family, saying, “I am sending out this message to, first of all, thank God for giving Maama and myself our wonderful children.”
He named his children as Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Kyaremeera, and credited divine protection for their lives and progress.
He also honoured the First Lady, Janet Museveni, acknowledging her role during a turbulent period.
“Secondly, I want to thank Maama for looking after them, especially for the years 1981-86 when she was the only parent near them,” he said, referring to the years of armed struggle.
The President went on to commend his children’s personal and professional journeys, noting that they had “gone through the school systems and branching out successfully in the different fields of life – family, career, etc.”
He further thanked Ugandans and Africans who have supported his family and political movement over the years.
Turning to the birthday milestone, Museveni highlighted Muhoozi’s upbringing within the context of Uganda’s resistance struggle. “These children, in particular Muhoozi, were born in the resistance, grew up in the resistance, and, in various ways, have made significant contribution to the resistance,” he said.
He credited Muhoozi with key contributions within the military, stating that he “has made a significant contribution to fighting corruption in the Army and increasing the lethality of the UPDF.”
The President also shared personal anecdotes about Muhoozi’s birth in 1974 at Ocean Road Hospital in Dar es Salaam. He recalled the events leading up to the delivery and the role of a family friend who helped transport Janet Museveni to the hospital during labour.
Museveni linked the birth to wider historical developments, describing it as part of what he termed “double blessings.”
He recounted calling Mozambican revolutionary leader Samora Machel to share the news, only to be told to call back later due to unfolding events in Portugal.
“Amazing- regarding the double blessings to we the freedom fighters- the 24th and 25th of April, 1974,” he said, referencing the Portuguese revolution.
He also drew connections between the birth dates of his other children and notable historical moments, describing them as “our little jokes in the family.”
Museveni concluded by congratulating Muhoozi and his family. “Congratulations Muogi, his wife, children and siblings on this milestone,” he said, signing off the message as “Ampa (Grandpa)”.
