Four suspects have been arrested in Nakuru County following a coordinated police operation targeting violent crime in Mau Narok.
The National Police Service-Kenya said the breakthrough was achieved during intensified patrols aimed at curbing organised criminal activity in the region.
“As the National Police Service intensifies its crackdown on violent crime in Nakuru County, a significant breakthrough was recorded yesterday following a coordinated patrol operation by officers from Mau Narok Police Station.”
The operation led to the interception of two suspects at Mau-Narok Trading Centre.
Police said the individuals had been under surveillance for some time due to alleged involvement in criminal activities within the area.
“The officers intercepted and apprehended two suspects at Mau-Narok Trading Centre, who had been under police surveillance for some time due to their alleged involvement in criminal activities within the area.”
Upon search, officers recovered concealed weapons from the suspects. These included machetes and daggers. Police said the items pointed to possible preparation for violent offences.
The National Police Service noted that the discovery raised concern over the intent of the suspects. It described the findings as “a clear indication of their intent to commit violent offences.”
Preliminary investigations linked the two suspects to a group identified locally as the “Men in Black”. The gang has allegedly been associated with robberies and burglaries reported in Mau Narok and surrounding areas. The incidents have affected residents and businesses in the region.
Following the arrests, officers acted on intelligence gathered at the scene. This led to further operations aimed at tracing suspected stolen property linked to the group.
“Acting on intelligence gathered during the arrest, officers conducted follow-up operations that led to the recovery of a variety of household goods and a substantial number of electronic items believed to have been stolen.”
The follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects. They were found in possession of items believed to be stolen property. Police said the two were being investigated for handling stolen goods, indicating a wider network involved in storage and distribution.
All four suspects are currently in police custody. They have been processed and are awaiting arraignment in court. Authorities said the case remains under investigation as efforts continue to establish the full extent of the network.
The National Police Service said the operation demonstrates the value of intelligence-led policing. It reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violent crime and dismantling organised criminal groups across the country.
