Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi speaking at the opening of the Safina Siaya Office in Karemo, along Siaya–Kisumu Road/HANDOUT

Safina Party leader has Jimi Wanjigi has criticised leaders in the Nyanza region, accusing them of collaborating with what he termed a punitive and self-serving government.

Speaking at the opening of the Safina Party office in Siaya County, Wanjigi said leaders in the region must stop compromising the rights and lives of their people for selfish gain.

“You cannot align with a government that continues to burden citizens, borrow endlessly, and preside over suffering, then claim to represent the people,” he stated.

He warned against what he described as attempts to infiltrate and weaken the region’s political foundation.

“The people of this region must remain vigilant. Your leaders are failing you. They decided to join the government, and now they are crying foul,” he added.

Turning to his 2027 presidential bid, Wanjigi framed the election as a contest of ideas and economic credibility.

“Those who want power must show their formula. I have shown mine. I will be on the ballot in 2027, and let me be clear, no one understands this economy better than me. When we get to the ballot, remember my deputy Willis Otieno and me as your sure liberators. I am ready to liberate Kenya. I am ready to steady this economy. Do not be misled, the liberation we need is economic liberation,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Deputy Party Leader Willis Otieno called for urgent reforms in public service delivery, stating: “Healthcare and education must be free. These are rights, not privileges. What we are witnessing is a government making money from its own people and not providing basic services. That is unacceptable.”

He added that Safina is not a party for leaders, it is a party for the people. “We shall not pay debts created to feed a few. Kenyans cannot continue to suffer under the weight of borrowing that does not serve them. That era must come to an end,” stated Otieno.

Concluding the meeting, Secretary General Joakim Simiyu struck a defiant and rallying tone, expressing confidence that the current government will not survive the next electoral cycle.

“This government will not see another day in office after the next General Election. The people are awake. Enough is enough. Siaya, the time is now, not tomorrow, not next year. Join Safina.  Take back what is yours,” said Simiyu.

The Siaya office will serve as a hub for grassroots mobilisation, civic engagement, and policy dialogue as Safina Party accelerates its nationwide expansion.
