Detectives are investigating an incident in which a plumber was found murdered outside his house in Kayole, Nairobi County.
The deceased was identified as Raphael Munyoki, 33. His body had stab wounds in the chest, and his plumbing tools lay nearby, police said.
Police said he may have been targeted and killed in a confrontation with suspected thugs on Thursday, April 16, in the morning.
The body was found about 200 metres from his house and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said.
Mohamud said a team of detectives was pursuing the matter for justice.
“We have teams on the ground actively pursuing the case to know the motive and those behind the same,” he said.
He added that police had increased patrols in various areas to address crime in general.
Meanwhile, police in Taita Taveta County have launched a manhunt for a suspected killer following the murder of a 45-year-old woman at a lodge in Voi Township.
According to police, the incident occurred earlier that morning at Gems Lodge. The victim, identified as Lucy Musau, is reported to have checked into a room at around 5:00 a.m. in the company of an unidentified male client.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the man was later seen leaving the room carrying a gas cylinder, raising suspicion among colleagues.
Concerned by the unusual circumstances, one of the victim’s colleagues went to check on her and found her lying motionless on the bed.
Police officers, accompanied by crime scene investigators, processed the scene and established that the deceased had visible marks on both sides of her neck, suggesting possible strangulation. Traces of faecal matter were also noted on the bedding.
The body was moved to Moi County Referral Hospital Voi, where a medical officer confirmed her death. It is currently preserved at the facility’s mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have since launched investigations and are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.
Elsewhere, police in Kwanza Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County, have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in River Mto Pengo.
According to police, the body was retrieved by a team from the Kitale Fire Brigade and was already in a decomposed state at the time of recovery, making immediate identification difficult.
The remains were later moved to Kitale General Hospital mortuary, where they are being preserved pending post-mortem examination and identification.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify the deceased.
