Detectives in Turkana County are investigating a suspected murder after the body of a 37-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in Lokiriama Sub-County.
Police said the body was discovered in the Nakunoit area on Thursday. A team that visited the scene identified the deceased as Esibitar Aruma.
The body was found hanging from a tree branch in a kneeling position, raising suspicion among investigators.
Police noted that the deceased had visible bruises on the forehead, thighs and knees, injuries that have led detectives to suspect that he may have been killed elsewhere and the body later staged at the scene to appear like a suicide.
The scene was processed by investigators, and the deceased’s family has been notified. The body was moved to the Turkana County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death and to identify those responsible.
In a separate incident, a man died after allegedly consuming a chemical substance he had prepared in the Githurai 44 area of Kasarani, Nairobi.
According to police, the incident was reported on April 15, 2026, by the deceased’s brother. He told police that the man began experiencing difficulty seeing and severe stomach complications after ingesting the substance on April 13, 2026, within the Sonic area.
The victim was rushed to Kiambu General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. However, he died on April 14, 2026, while undergoing care.
The body has since been moved to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination. Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elsewhere, police are investigating the discovery of an amputated human leg believed to be that of a woman, found in a carton abandoned by a passenger in a tuktuk in Kitale town.
The left leg was found in the tuktuk after a passenger who had been carrying it alighted at the Waitaluk area along the Kitale–Maili Saba Road.
Police who responded to the scene said the leg had been professionally amputated and labelled with a name. It was taken to a local mortuary pending further investigations.
Police said on Thursday they are investigating the incident to establish those behind it and the motive. So far, no one has reported a related incident in the area.
