DCI detectives are investigating the murder of a 45-year-old woman whose body was discovered by the roadside in Kutus, Kirinyaga county.
Police said Ann Nyawira's body was found on Rukenya–Kabare road on April 13.
Preliminary investigations show Nyawira had a domestic dispute with her husband on the night of April 11.
The disagreement reportedly arose after the husband attempted to sell the family’s only cow.
A close examination of the body revealed a deep cut wound extending from the left ear to the mouth, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object.
Investigators who visited the couple’s home recovered several items believed to be linked to the murder, including a blood-stained panga suspected to be the weapon used, curtains with blood traces and pillows soaked in blood.
A blood-stained bedsheet was also recovered from a pit latrine within the homestead.
The scene was processed by forensic officers, and the body was moved to Kibugi Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
The suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody awaiting interrogation as investigations continue, police said on Wednesday.
Police in Kuria East, Migori county have launched investigations into a suspected murder after a night watchman was found dead inside a bar toilet at Kegonga Market.
The incident was reported by the owner of the bar after he discovered the body while opening the premises for business.
Police visited the scene and found the body of a 48-year-old man identified as Mwita Kiburi inside the toilet. The deceased sustained a deep cut on the chin below the mouth.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident may have stemmed from a confrontation the previous night.
At around 9.00 pm, a group of about six men reportedly entered the bar and ordered drinks.
Trouble started at around 11.15 pm following a dispute over non-payment of the bill.
During the altercation, the watchman is said to have locked one of the revellers inside the bar in an attempt to compel payment. It is believed the situation escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police noted that the bar was in disarray, with broken beer bottles scattered around and visible blood stains on the floor—signs pointing to a struggle.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Wima Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
No arrests have been made so far and police are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
