Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into the death of a 9-year-old boy under unclear circumstances in Buruburu.
According to police, the incident came to light after the child’s mother reported that her son, a Grade One pupil at Kaloleni Primary School, left home on April 10 at around 10 am to play outside.
He later returned home at about 8:30 pm with visible injuries on his head and right thumb.
When questioned about the injuries, the child reportedly said he wanted to sleep and did not explain what had happened.
The mother bathed and fed him before he went to bed.
However, at around 11 pm the boy complained of stomach pain, prompting the mother to rush him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers who visited the hospital found the body with visible injuries on the head, chest, and left thumb.
The circumstances under which the child sustained the injuries remain unclear.
The scene was processed, and the body was moved to the hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the cause of death and establish what transpired before the boy returned home injured.
In another incident, a 65-year-old watchman was found dead after being brutally attacked by unknown assailants at Kitini Market in Matungulu Subcounty, Machakos county.
Police said the incident was reported on April 11, 2026, after the victim was found lying unconscious earlier that morning.
The victim was identified as Oliver Wambua Nzuki, who had been employed as a night watchman guarding approximately 13 shops in the market.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers attempted to break into a bar but were unsuccessful. It is believed the watchman may have confronted them, leading to the violent assault.
He sustained deep cuts to the back of his head and facial injuries, including wounds around the mouth area.
The injured watchman was rushed to Kangundo Level IV Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
His body has since been moved to Kangundo Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the incident and are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Preliminary observations revealed that the body had a visible stab wound on the right side of the backbone, suggesting foul play.
The body was later moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
