Siaya Governor James Orengo accompanied by a group of youths, marched along Kisumu’s Oginga Odinga (Kidumu) Street to Kisumu Central Police Station, where they formally presented a petition demanding justice / FAITH MATETE Pressure is mounting on police in Nyanza to expedite investigations and arrests linked to the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, with Siaya Governor James Orengo leading calls for swift action.
This comes as Orengo, accompanied by a group of youths, marched along Kisumu’s Oginga Odinga (Kidumu) Street to Kisumu Central Police Station, where they formally presented a petition demanding justice.
In a formal complaint addressed to Nyanza regional police commander Evelyn Gisiri, the governor acknowledged the arrest of three suspects but raised concern that other key perpetrators remain at large.
While terming the arrests a step in the right direction, Orengo said some individuals believed to have played a central role in coordinating the attack are yet to be apprehended, despite what he described as available photographic and CCTV evidence placing them at the scene.
He further claimed that some of the suspects have previously been linked to disturbances in Kisumu, raising fears of a pattern of organised disruptions.
The governor also called for thorough investigations into possible links and coordination behind the attack, citing circulating images and public concern that suggest the involvement of a wider network.
Addressing the press after presenting the petition, Orengo thanked Kisumu residents for turning up in large numbers to support the push for accountability.
“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the brave people of Kisumu who joined me in our march to the Kisumu Central Police Station. Your presence and your voices sent a clear message that we will not sit idly by while our leaders are targeted and the rule of law is ignored,” he said.
He added that the petition had formally been served through the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), demanding immediate action.
“Our demands are clear and non-negotiable: The individuals behind the attack on Senator Osotsi must be brought to book. We demand the immediate execution of the outstanding arrest warrants. Justice delayed is justice denied,” Orengo said.
He warned that political violence has no place in a democratic society and urged police to act without fear or favour.
“The energy was a testament to our collective resolve. We remain peaceful but firm in our quest for accountability. We will not rest until those responsible are behind bars,” he added.
The attack on Osotsi has sparked widespread concern, with leaders across the region calling for justice and enhanced security during political engagements.
Police are yet to issue a comprehensive update on the remaining suspects.
