Man, 64, killed in domestic dispute in Homa Bay

A 64-year-old man died after he was stabbed during a domestic dispute in Rachuonyo South Sub-county, Homa Bay County, police said.

Police said the incident occurred in Kowidi Location, Kanyango Sub-location. The deceased, identified as George Michael Otieno, was found lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room of his house with a stab wound at the base of the neck.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the altercation began earlier in the evening on April 10 at around 8:00 p.m. when Otieno reportedly returned home while intoxicated and engaged in a quarrel with his wife.

The disagreement is said to have escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the woman allegedly stabbed him using a kitchen knife.

Police said the couple had been married for about 20 years and had a history of domestic disputes.

Officers who responded to the scene recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife hidden under a seat near the body. The suspect was found wearing blood-soaked clothes and was arrested.

The scene was processed and the body moved to Rachuonyo County Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected. Police have launched investigations into the incident.

In a separate incident, police in Kitui County are investigating a murder following a suspected break-in at a bar in Mutomo Sub-county.

The incident was reported on April 8, 2026, by a local who told police he had gone to open his shop at Yongela Shopping Centre when he discovered that his adjacent bar had been broken into overnight.

Upon entering the premises, he also observed a pool of blood near the front door behind the bar.

Further inspection led to the discovery of the body of a young man, later identified as 27-year-old John Nzinga Mutua, lying behind the counter.

Police officers from Ikanga Police Station, alongside detectives from Mutomo, visited the scene and confirmed that the deceased had sustained multiple head injuries. A metal rod, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered next to the body.

According to the bar owner, the deceased had been at his home earlier in the night in the company of his son, chewing miraa, before leaving at around 3:00 a.m. to return home. It is suspected he may have encountered his attackers shortly after.

The scene was processed and documented, and the body moved to Mutomo Sub-county Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing and the reported break-in.
