Two suspects have been arrested, and a homemade firearm recovered following an intelligence-led operation conducted by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Isebania, Migori County.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with K9 officers from Isebania Police Station, targeted Nyametaburo Location after investigators acted on credible intelligence pointing to suspected possession of illegal weapons within the area.

According to police, officers raided the residence of a 51-year-old suspect.

A search of the homestead led to the discovery of a homemade firearm concealed under a sofa set inside the house.

"A search of the premises led to the recovery of a homemade firearm concealed under a sofa set, alongside one round of ammunition wrapped in aluminium foil," DCI said in a statement.

In addition, officers seized several items alleged to be linked to criminal activity, including a twisted metal rod, a blue balaclava mask, a dotted dera dress, a black marvin, and a black jacket.

Following the initial arrest, the suspect reportedly led officers to another residence within Nyametaburo Location, where a suspected accomplice was subsequently arrested.

"A search at the second residence resulted in the recovery of a Maasai sword in a red sheath," the statement said.

According to the authorities, preliminary findings indicate that the first suspect is a known offender with multiple pending cases before the Kehancha Law Courts.

The suspects are currently in police custody as they await completion of processing and further interrogation ahead of their arraignment.

The operation comes a day after three suspects were arrested and a loaded firearm recovered in a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting criminal activities in the area.

The Friday raid, conducted jointly by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Laare and Laare Police Station, is believed to have disrupted a string of robberies that had unsettled residents in Igembe.

According to detectives, the suspects were apprehended during a planned raid following intelligence reports linking them to organised crime.

During the search of a residence, officers recovered a Beretta 1934 Corto pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition. The firearm had been carefully concealed inside the house, pointing to an attempt to evade detection.

The DCI confirmed that the suspects are in custody and assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.

“The success of this operation reflects continued efforts to protect lives and property and all individuals involved in crime will be pursued and brought to justice,” the agency said. It added that the arrests are part of a wider crackdown on criminal gangs in Meru County.
