Body of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho leaves Lee Funeral Home/SCREENGRABThe final journey of the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Kiaraho began on Friday morning as his body left Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi for a procession to The Island Farm in Tigoni, ahead of his burial scheduled later in the day.
The body was seen off by close family members and friends who oversaw the process.
Clad in black attire, they followed the proceedings as the casket was placed into a hearse. The event was marked by a sombre mood as the final journey began.
Among the mourners, female relatives were dressed in black, with some also wearing head knots featuring colours resembling the Kenyan flag, positioned near the shoulders as they participated in the send-off ceremony.
Once placed inside the hearse, the coffin was covered with a white cloth bearing PCEA markings.
The body was moved under tight coordination by funeral organisers, marking the start of the final rites for the legislator whose passing has drawn tributes from across the political divide.
The procession is expected to culminate at his Tigoni farm, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with his wishes.
According to the funeral planning committee, the decision to inter the late MP at his farm in Tigoni reflects his personal preference expressed before his death.
Committee chairperson Kwenya Thuku previously confirmed that the burial site was chosen in line with the late legislator’s final instructions.
“Our departed brother will be laid to rest in his farm in Tigoni. He often retreated there to relax, reflect, and unwind, and it is where he expressed his wish to be buried,” Thuku said following a committee meeting held earlier at the late MP’s residence in Runda, Nairobi.
The meeting, which brought together family representatives and organisers, also finalised arrangements for the burial service.
The late Kiaraho was serving his third term as the MP for Ol Kalou Constituency, having first been elected to the National Assembly in the 2013 general election.
He was re-elected in subsequent general elections, including in 2017 and 2022.
In Parliament, Kiaraho has served in various committees, including the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works, and Housing, as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
His areas of focus have included infrastructure development, housing, transport, energy, and urban planning.
He has been affiliated with the Jubilee Party during his time in elective politics and is known for his long-standing representation of Ol Kalou Constituency.
Reports indicated that the legislator passed away while undergoing medical care.
