Detectives in Ugenya Sub-county, Siaya County, are investigating a suspected murder after a 24-year-old man died following an incident outside a nightclub.
Police reported that the case came to light on April 7, 2026, several days after the victim, identified as Brian Odhiambo, was attacked on the night of April 4 while out socialising.
Investigators said Odhiambo had gone to a nightclub with his brother, but the two were unable to raise the entrance fee and remained outside.
While there, they were reportedly confronted by a group of unknown individuals, prompting them to flee in different directions. The brothers later reunited at home, both nursing injuries.
Despite their condition, they did not seek medical attention or report the incident to the police immediately, instead opting to self-medicate.
Odhiambo’s condition deteriorated on April 6, leading his family to take him to Ambira Sub-County Hospital, from where he was referred to Siaya County Referral Hospital. He died while receiving treatment.
His body has been transferred to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Police said detectives are working to identify and locate those responsible for the fatal assault.
In a separate incident in the county, officers arrested a man following the death of his 65-year-old uncle after a confrontation at a homestead in Ngungu Village, Kabura Uhuyi.
The suspect told police that he was attacked around 4:00 a.m. by two unknown men who were with his uncle, Joseph Otieno Nderma.
He said he acted in self-defence, wrestling with the three and disarming his uncle of a panga before fleeing and hiding in nearby bushland.
He further stated that when he returned home later, he found his uncle lying motionless outside the house and reported the matter to police, handing over the weapon.
Officers who visited the scene observed visible injuries on the body, including bruises on the face, chest, and back, as well as marks on the neck suggesting a struggle.
The body was moved to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, who had bruises on his face and hands, remains in custody to assist with investigations.
Police said they are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, including the involvement of the two unidentified individuals.
