Ruto: Church building tops all development projects

President William Ruto has said that constructing churches ranks above all other development prioritiesas his administration continues to invest heavily in infrastructure projects across the country.

Speaking during Easter Sunday celebrations in Impopong, Trans Mara West, Narok County, the President said building places of worship carries greater importance than projects such as markets, affordable housing, roads and developments at State House.

“When you see your neighbour’s big church, well arranged, I am reminded of King David, who said he was glad when he was told to go to the house of the Lord. I too am happy to be here, not as a guest but as a member of this community,” Ruto said.

The President revealed that the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, had informed him of a planned church construction project in the area, which he endorsed, terming it a good idea.

He said his government has been actively rolling out construction projects nationwide but emphasised that religious infrastructure holds special significance.

“I have been working hard with construction across the country. I have been doing constructions at State House, markets, affordable housing and roads. Building the church is the most important one in all those,” he said.

Ruto added that his visit was also meant to unite with the local community and lay the foundation for new church projectsemphasising his intention to support the expansion of places of worship.

The remarks were delivered against the backdrop of the Easter message, with the President quoting Matthew 28:6: “He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

As Kenyans mark Easter, President Ruto sent out a warm message of hope during the Easter weekend.

Ruto wished Kenyans a happy Easter, urging them to embrace hope, renewal, and unity.

In a video message shared on his social media platforms on Friday, Ruto said the Easter season offers a reminder of new beginnings, anchored on the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“As we remember the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are reminded that in every situation there is resurrection and a new beginning,” Ruto said.

He expressed his wishes to families across the country, saying the season should bring joy, peace and renewed faith to those going through difficult moments.

“To every family, may the spirit of Easter bring joy and peace. To every weary heart, may it bring hope and renewed faith,” he said.

The President also called for unity among Kenyans, noting that the country stands to benefit from shared values of love and togetherness.

“And to our beloved Kenya, may it bring strength, unity and love. God bless your families, and God bless Kenya,” Ruto said.
