
Police in Gatundu North Subcounty, Kiambu county are investigating the murder of a 70-year-old man whose body was found in his house in Kariri Village.
Police said the incident was reported on April 3, 2026, and the deceased, identified as Jeremiah Mungai Mwaura, was discovered by his wife, who had gone to check on him in his room during the day.
She found him lying on his back naked and unresponsive before raising alarm.
Family members responded and confirmed that he had died.
Police visited the scene and revealed that the deceased was lying on the bed facing upwards, with his legs touching the ground. He had sustained four stab wounds to the chest and stomach.
Investigators recovered a wiped kitchen knife beside the bed, a blood-soaked cloth, blood stains on the floor, and a bottle of pesticide placed on a table within the room.
Authorities noted that the deceased had been battling various illnesses for the past ten years, including stomach cancer, and was scheduled to attend a medical appointment the following day.
The scene was processed and documented by crime scene investigators, with police now probing the circumstances surrounding the killing, including whether it was a case of foul play or involved other factors.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old minor died after a wall collapsed on him in a village in Suna, Migori county.
Police said the incident happened on April 2 in Nyamilu village. The victim was a grade two pupil at Bondo Nyironge Primary School.
He is said to have been in their semi-permanent house when a wall collapsed and trapped him fatally.
The police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Elsewhere, a prison warder is among three people who drowned in separate incidents reported.
Police said Constable Shadrack Mutati attached to the Kisii prisons, was taking a bath in River Migori on April 2 when he drowned.
He is said to have slipped into the swelling river and drowned. His body was swept downstream and efforts to trace and retrieve it continued on Friday.
He had been at a construction site and left his friend there before he walked to the river to bathe when the incident happened. He had visited a friend in the area and planned to return to his work station on the day he drowned.
The other incidents were reported in Siaya County and Narok County, police said.
More than 112 people have died due to rain related incidents in the country, officials said adding hundreds others have been displaced.
