US and Iranian forces are searching for a missing American crew member after a US warplane was shot down - verified video appears to show the US operation.

The missing airman, a weapon systems officer, was aboard a US F-15 fighter jet that was downed in southern Iran.

It's not known what has happened to the missing crew member. A pilot who was also on board has been rescued, US media report.

Iranian security forces are searching the region for the airman - officials in the country are urging citizens to find them "alive" and are offering rewards for their capture, state media says.

This is a moment fraught with risk and political peril for the US, and could offer Iran a propaganda victory, the BBC's chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet writes.

Iran says it has shot down a second American warplane over the Gulf. US media reports an A-10 Warthog was shot at during the mission to find the first downed aircraft - the pilot reportedly ejected over the Gulf and has been rescued.

Elsewhere, Iran says the area around the Bushehr nuclear power plant has been attacked, with one person killed.

UAE intercepts 23 missiles and 56 drones, defence ministry says

In its daily update, the UAE Ministry of Defence says it intercepted 23 ballistic missiles and 56 drones from Iran on 4 April.

This brings the total number of interceptions since the start of the conflict to 498 ballistic missiles, 23 cruise missiles and 2,141 drones, according to a post on social media.

Authorities say two members of the armed forces, a contractor and 10 other people have been killed in the UAE since the start of the war. Two hundred and seventeen people have been injured.

Iran denies that the second crew member has been arrested

A sub-unit of Iran’s IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) in Iran’s southern Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad province, and the governor of the same province, have both denied that the second American crew member of the F-15 has been arrested.

Separately, the governor has denied that the first pilot was rescued by the US and has labelled it as “enemy tactic”.

State-affiliated Iranian channels have urged citizens to “capture the pilot alive” and offered rewards.

In one widely circulated example, Iranian outlets reported on a reward of around £50,000 ($66,100), an amount that is strikingly higher than the country’s estimated monthly salary range of £150 to £230.
