A police officer in Embu County is recovering after being bitten by a snake at his home, authorities said.
He is one of two people who suffered snake bites in separate incidents, police confirmed.
The second incident occurred in Nandi Hills, Nandi County.
The constable was bitten Thursday evening shortly after arriving home from duty.
The officer sustained the bite on his right wrist while attempting to put on a pair of shoes, unaware that a snake had hidden inside.
He was rushed to Kiambere Dispensary, where he received emergency treatment, including anti-venom. Police confirmed that he is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
In Nandi Hills, a 34-year-old man was bitten on the neck by a snake while plucking tea at Chemomi Tea Estate. He had carried the harvested tea in a basket to a weighing shade when the bite occurred, police said.
The man was admitted to hospital in serious condition, witnesses said. The snake escaped into the tea plantation, raising concerns that it could bite other workers.
The incidents underscore the risks of snakes hiding in household items and plantations in rural areas.
Residents are advised to check footwear and clothing before use, while tea estate managers are urged to take measures to protect workers from such hazards.
