A fisherman is being sought by security officers after allegedly killing his six-year-old son in Gembe North location, Homa Bay county, after differing with his wife over a widow he had inherited.
Area Chief Charles Ngoe said that the man also injured his daughter in a fit of rage, and she is admitted to a local hospital.
The chief identified the victim as a fisherman at Misori Beach.
Ngoe said the man was angered by his wife’s resistance to his decision to inherit the widow.
The administrator said the suspect began battering his wife who escaped for her safety.
When the wife had disappeared, he turned to his four-year-old daughter and attacked her with a piece of wood.
After the girl fell to the ground unconscious, he turned on his son chasing him before he struck him with a jembe handle, killing him on the spot.
“The boy sustained a serious fracture on the head before he collapsed and died on the spot,” Ngoe said.
The administrator said the suspect intended to wipe out his family.
“The manner in which he was assaulting them shows he wanted to kill everybody in the family because of the widow inheritance dispute,” he added, adding the injured daughter was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Homa Bay Bunge la Mwananchi Speaker Walter Opiyo condemned the incident and urged couples to solve their issues amicably.
He urged security agencies to pursue the culprit and take punitive legal action against him.
The boy’s body was moved to Mbita Subcounty hospital mortuary.
