President William Ruto is set to host an Eid-ul-Fitr luncheon with Muslim leaders in Kisumu on Friday as he begins a series of high-level engagements during his tour of the Nyanza region.
According to the official programme, the luncheon will take place at 1:00 pm at State Lodge, ahead of a high-level meeting with Nyanza leaders scheduled for 4:00 pm. The engagements are expected to focus on development priorities, regional unity, and the status of key government projects.
The President arrived in Kisumu on Thursday evening, landing at Kisumu Port where he was received by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o before proceeding to State Lodge.
Ruto’s visit follows an earlier stop in Narok, where he launched another segment of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), underscoring the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development.
His Kisumu visit is part of a broader five-day tour of the Nyanza region running from March 20 to March 24, during which he is expected to launch and inspect key development projects.
The extension of the SGR remains one of the flagship projects under focus, with the government positioning it as a game-changer for trade and transport in western Kenya.
Ruto’s engagements also carry political significance, coming at a time when the region has increasingly featured in national conversations around inclusion, development, and shifting political alignments.
Leaders in the region are expected to use the meetings to push for accelerated implementation of projects, including infrastructure, healthcare, and economic empowerment programmes.
In Kisumu, anticipation is building as residents and leaders await possible announcements from the President, particularly on infrastructure expansion and economic opportunities tied to the railway and other national projects.
Security has been heightened around key venues, with authorities urging calm and orderly conduct during the President’s visit.
The tour is expected to culminate in a series of public events over the weekend, where the President will address residents and officially launch projects aimed at transforming the region’s economic landscape.
