Kenyan esports enthusiasts will on Saturday battle for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — a fully sponsored trip to Paris — when the fifth edition of the eLigue1Tour Kenya Grand Finale takes place at the University of Nairobi Main Campus.
The tournament, organised in partnership with EA Sports and the Ligue 1 McDonald's, has rapidly gained traction among football gaming fans and will feature competition across two platforms — PlayStation 5 using EA Sports FC 26 and the mobile version, EA Sports FC Mobile.
Players will be required to select clubs from Ligue 1 as they battle for national supremacy, with the champions in each category earning an exclusive Ligue 1 experience in Paris.
This year’s edition attracted an impressive 3,287 registered players, underlining the rapid growth of esports in Kenya. Of these, 2,127 competed in the mobile category while 1,160 took part in the PlayStation division before the competition narrowed to the final 12 contenders.
The PlayStation 5 category features eight finalists, headlined by defending champion Joash “Jojo” Agutu, who returns aiming to retain the title he won in 2025 after edging Mombasa’s Harun Ahmed 3–2 in a dramatic final in Nairobi.
Agutu, a student at Kenyatta University, earned a trip to Paris with last year’s victory and cemented his reputation as one of Kenya’s leading esports competitors.
Joining him in the EA Sports FC 26 grand finale are former champion Luony “Fox” Teat, seasoned gamer Moses Ndarwa, Leone Mwaura, Aiyabei Kibet, Brian Mutua, Omar Harun Ahmed, and rising high school star Gerald Jeremiah.
Meanwhile, the EA Sports FC Mobile category will see four finalists — Lawrence Amollo, Gideon Muriithi, Prince Baraka, and Jeffry Odhiambo — battle for their own Paris-bound ticket.
The road to the final began on March 7 at BBS Mall in Eastleigh, where the PlayStation qualifiers produced the top eight players advancing to the final stage. The FC Mobile contest was conducted online, with the best four gamers securing their places in the championship round.
Since its inception, the eLigue1Tour has grown into a major international esports competition, linking football gaming communities across several countries and offering players a chance to compete using Ligue 1 clubs while pursuing global exposure.
