Persons with disabilities in Wajir county have every reason to smile after the county government distributed Ramadhan Iftar food packages.

Speaking at Wagberi while leading the distribution exercise, Wajir county Chief Officer, Special Programmes Department, Abdille Adan said the initiative is aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community as they observe Ramadhan.

The distribution included cooking oil, wheat flour, maize flour, dates and porridge flour.

Adan reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to assisting vulnerable groups.

“As an administration, we made a deliberate effort to extend this donation to persons with disabilities in our county during Ramadhan by ensuring they can observe it with dignity and ease,” Adan said.

He said the Ramadan Iftar pack donation is part of the county’s broader efforts to support vulnerable households, promote social equity and strengthen community solidarity.

He also encouraged continued collaboration between the county government, community leaders and development partners to ensure support reaches those who need it most.

He called on the community to embrace compassion, unity and inclusivity as key values during Ramadhan and beyond.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the county leadership for remembering them and extending a helping hand during the important period.

“Many times, Persons with Disabilities are forgotten when support is being given, yet we are among those who struggle the most. Today we feel seen and valued. So we have every reason to be grateful,” said Mohamed Abdi, one of the beneficiaries.

Another beneficiary, Ahmed Mohamud said the support means a lot to them and their families.

“Ramadan is a time of sharing and compassion, and the county government has shown that they truly care about people living with disabilities. We thank them for ensuring we are not left behind,” Mohamud said.

Fatuma Yussuf noted that many persons with disabilities face economic challenges and often depend on support from the community.

She said receiving the Iftar packages eases the burden on their families during Ramadan.

“We hope this spirit of inclusion continues. Persons with disabilities should always be considered in development programmes because we are part of this community and we also want to contribute positively to society,” Fatuma said.
