Two siblings have drowned in a river in a tragic incident in Kombewa, Kisumu county.

The incident happened Saturday March 7, in Kitmikayi area where a six-year-old girl first drowned as she swam in River Nyandiwa, police said.

Her brother aged 36 rushed to her rescue minutes later but also drowned in the same river, police said.

Residents retrieved the bodies, which were moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Officials have warned most rivers are flooded due to heavy rains being experienced in several parts of the country.

The flooding left at least 28 people dead in Nairobi on Friday night while dozens others are missing. More than 100 cars were damaged in the chaos.

Elsewhere, there was tragedy in a village when a girl aged 18 drowned in a pit latrine that collapsed with her in it in Chasimba, Kilifi county, police said.

The victim was a student at St Teresa Day Secondary School, police said adding the incident happened Saturday morning at their home.

She had gone to the pit latrine for a call of nature when it suddenly collapsed and trapped her.

Her body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary for other procedures, police said.

In Kasuku, Nyandarua county, the body of a man was found outside a school after a suspected murder. The body was not immediately identified and the motive of the murder was not known, police said.

In Witethie, Kiambu county, the body of John Mutua was found outside a residential apartment. Police said they are yet to establish the cause of his death.

In Wataalamu, Kiambu county, a reveler died in a bar as he waited to have his lunch.

He was identified as Anthony Thiongo, 35. The cause of the death was not immediately known as he had come to the joint and ordered food before he started to vomit and collapsed.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

And a man aged 27 was stoned to death after being accused of theft in Yala, Siaya county.

Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal. They have urged residents to surrender suspects to authorities for processing.
