The Authority said ongoing rainfall and foggy conditions in some areas are significantly increasing road risks due to reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces.

In a public notice, NTSA urged motorists to be extra cautious and mindful of their safety and that of other road users.

Pedestrians were advised to use designated crossing points to avoid unnecessary risks.

Passengers were also reminded to take responsibility for their safety.

“Passengers are also encouraged to take responsibility for their own safety by speaking out and asking the driver to stop if the situation becomes unsafe,” the notice said.

The Authority outlined several precautionary measures for drivers during the rainy season. Motorists are advised to keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and drive slowly, as halting completely in rainy conditions is difficult.

They are also urged to turn on headlights whenever it rains to improve visibility for oncoming traffic and to use windshield wipers to clear raindrops from the glass.

Stalled vehicles should be removed as soon as possible, and drivers are strongly cautioned not to attempt to drive through flooded roads.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Let us all work together to make our roads safer,” said the NTSA Director General in the notice.

The alert comes amid persistent heavy rains that have affected multiple regions, raising concerns over accidents caused by slippery roads and limited visibility.

Authorities said adherence to these measures is critical to prevent crashes and ensure the safety of all road users.

Transport experts noted that rainy conditions increase the risk of collisions, particularly when drivers fail to adjust their speed or maintain safe distances.

They emphasised that careful driving, vigilance, and compliance with recommended safety protocols can save lives during extreme weather.

NTSA’s warning serves as a reminder to all road users to prioritise safety over speed. Drivers are encouraged to plan journeys carefully and remain alert, while passengers and pedestrians are urged to stay cautious.

The Authority reiterated that the collective efforts of motorists, passengers, and pedestrians are key to reducing accidents during the rainy season.

“Let us all work together to make our roads safer,” the Director General concluded, highlighting the importance of shared responsibility on the roads.
