In Israel, the military reports new attacks from Iran, after explosions were seen in the sky earlier

The UAE says it intercepted six Iranian missiles and 131 drones today - but one missile and six drones fell inside the country. The UK embassy in the UAE earlier warned people to "shelter in place"

Across the region, explosions were reported in Qatar and Bahrain; Azerbaijan said it was attacked by two Iranian drones; and a tanker was damaged in the northern Gulf - Iran said it hit a US ship

Meanwhile, the first flight organised by the UK government to bring citizens home from the region has been delayed by a technical issue

The flight from Oman was due to take off last night - but will now set off today. "It's a total farce," one passenger tells the BBC

And in northern Iraq, Kurdish Iranians deny their forces have entered Iran: "We cannot move if the air above us is not cleaned," they tell the BBC

IDF tells residents in Beirut's southern suburbs to evacuate immediately

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has issued an urgent alert to residents of the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, telling them to evacuate their homes immediately, its Arabic-language spokesperson says.

"Attention, you are prohibited from heading south. Any southward movement could endanger your lives," says Avichay Adraee.

European leaders present united front on Iran, eventually

Six days into the war and more EU leaders have come forward with promises of defence aid to Cyprus and allies in the Gulf.

Two days ago, Greece, the UK and France said they were sending ships and air defences to Cyprus after drones were fired at the RAF base at Akrotiri on the island. Now they've been joined by Italy and Spain - and the Netherlands is considering aid too.

Albeit rather slowly, a united front has begun to emerge among key Nato allies in Europe. There was an initial reluctance to get involved in Italy and especially Spain, which has refused to allow the US to use shared airbases at Morón and Rota to attack Iran.

Spain's defence minister said the frigate Cristóbal Colón was joining its allies to show "commitment to the defence of the European Union and its eastern border".

That's a very different message from France which has just agreed to authorise US warplanes to use its bases "temporarily", because they provide "protection for our partners in the Gulf".

Condemning Iran's "reckless" decision to bombard its neighbours, Italy's Giorgia Meloni said if US planes wanted to use bases in Italy for bombing missions, it would have to be authorised by both the government and parliament.

Judging from today's communique from France, Italy and Greece, European allies also want to ensure the safety of shipping in the Red Sea as much as they want to show solidarity in the Eastern Med.
