Ugandan businessman Shakib Lutaaya has publicly addressed circulating rumors suggesting a split between him and socialite Zari Hassan, assuring fans and followers that their relationship remains strong.
Speaking to Sanyuka TV, Shakib refuted claims that tensions surrounding fellow socialite Boss Mutoto in December had caused a rift.
The incident, linked to an alleged robbery at Mutoto’s bar in Munyonyo and Shakib’s subsequent police summons, had sparked speculation about a potential breakup due to Zari’s friendship with Mutoto.
“My wife and I have not separated. The rumors are false. Just as we never held an interview to announce we were dating, we won’t publicly declare a breakup. Let people think what they want. Ugandans should stop believing everything they see on social media,” Shakib stated.

He also cautioned journalists against publishing unverified claims, stressing that personal stories require evidence before going public.
Addressing accusations that he seeks financial support from other women, Shakib was emphatic:
“I’m a hustler and I work for myself. I have several businesses that provide my income. Many women here in Kampala have poor manners—they can be stingy or difficult—so I don’t ask anyone for money.”
Regarding rumors of infidelity, he added, “I’m not a cheater. When I commit to a relationship, that’s it. I’m loyal. If anyone claims otherwise, they should provide proof.”
Shakib concluded with a firm statement of love and commitment:
“My wife and I have not separated. We are very much in love and committed to each other.”
With his remarks, Shakib Lutaaya aims to put to rest all speculation and reinforce that his relationship with Zari remains intact despite the social media chatter.
Their Relationship Timeline
Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan and her partner Shakib Lutaaya took their relationship to the next level after more than a year of dating, culminating in a series of wedding events in 2023. The couple first made their union official in a private Islamic Nikah ceremony on April 16, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa, where they exchanged vows in a simple, intimate setting surrounded by close family and loved ones.
Following their Nikah, Zari and Shakib celebrated with a grander wedding ceremony on October 3, 2023, also in Pretoria. This all-white event was described as lavish and star-studded, attended by friends, family and several African celebrities. Zari wore an elegant ivory gown and veil while Shakib complemented her in formal attire, and Zari’s five children were part of the special day, dressed to match the theme.

The couple’s relationship had been public since early 2022, when they were first seen together following Zari’s previous breakup. Over the months, they became known for their displays of affection and travels together, ultimately choosing to formalize their commitment with both a traditional Islamic wedding and a larger celebration later in the year.
For Zari, this marked her first official marriage, despite her past high-profile relationships, making her union with Shakib a significant milestone both personally and publicly.
