
Officials are investigating an incident in which a police officer was found dead in his house in Kawangware, Nairobi.
Constable Victor Mwaka was attached to Muthaiga Police Station in Nairobi at the time of his death.
Colleagues said he had been on sick leave when he died on February 24, 2026. His body was found lying on his bed. He lived alone in the house, police said.
The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Elsewhere, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Mbita, Homa Bay County, Chief Inspector Morris Kyalo, died in a road accident.
The incident occurred on February 22 at the Nyakayiemba area along the Homa Bay–Mbita Road.
Police said the officer was driving alone in a saloon car when it veered off the road and hit a culvert.
He sustained internal injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
It was later moved on Wednesday to a mortuary in Machakos pending burial arrangements by the family.
Colleagues described him as a dedicated officer committed to his work.
In a separate incident, two police officers were attacked and injured by a mob that attempted to free a suspect in Shinyalu, Kakamega County.
The officers were admitted to the hospital in stable condition as the assailants fled the scene.
Police said a manhunt for the attackers was ongoing.
The suspect was detained pending arraignment following the February 24 incident.
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital after being seriously injured in a hippopotamus attack in Madogo, Tana River County.
The boy had taken his family’s goats to a watering point along the Tana River in Adama village when he was attacked by the animal, which had been grazing in nearby bushes.
He sustained multiple injuries to his legs before he was rescued and rushed to the hospital. The animal escaped as villagers began searching for it.
Kenya Wildlife Service officials were informed and said efforts were underway to remove the animal from the area.
Residents have complained that the animals pose a danger and have called for measures to contain them.
