Ride-hailing company Uber is offering discounted boda and electric boda rides during Ramadan to help Muslim faithful beat evening traffic while rushing to break their fast and attend prayers.
In a notice to customers, Uber announced that customers will enjoy fare discounts between 6pm and 9pm daily from February 19 to March 19, 2026, a period that coincides with Iftar, Maghreb, and Taraweeh prayers.
The company said the initiative is meant to ease transport challenges often experienced during the evening rush hour, when many are hurrying home, heading to mosques, or attending family gatherings.
“The rush for Iftar can be hectic, but your commute doesn’t have to be,” Uber said in the notice.
“Whether you’re racing to a family gathering, heading to the mosque for Maghreb and Taraweeh, or just trying to beat the evening rush hour, Uber Boda and E-Boda have you covered.”
Under the promotion, users can enjoy discounts of up to Sh250 per trip on a maximum of five rides, provided they book within the specified hours. The company said the promotion has already been activated on eligible user accounts, eliminating the need for manual entry of promo codes.
Customers are only required to open the Uber app and request a ride within the promotion period to benefit from the offer.
The Ramadan period is marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, with many faithful breaking their fast at sunset before proceeding for evening prayers. This often leads to increased demand for transport services, particularly within major urban centres where traffic congestion peaks in the evening.
Motorcycle taxis, including Uber Boda, have increasingly become popular due to their ability to manoeuvre through heavy traffic and reduce travel time compared to conventional vehicles.
Uber said the extended evening discount is designed to help riders skip traffic delays and arrive at their destinations on time.
The company also extended its goodwill message to Muslim faithful observing the holy month.
“Ramadan Kareem to everyone observing,” the company said.
