A group of teachers staged a protest over an incident where the deputy head teacher of a secondary school was found killed and his body abandoned on the roadside in the outskirts of Isiolo Town.

The victim was stabbed as he rode from his place of work in the Burat area on February 18, 2026. He was identified as William Mwangi Gitobu, 31, and a deputy headteacher of Leparua Secondary School.

Police say he was attacked and stabbed by men who grabbed his motorcycle and rode off with it.

His colleagues staged a protest in the area amid rising tensions. They demanded justice for the killing of the teacher.

Police and witnesses said the group protested near Isiolo Police Station and later marched to the County Education Offices in Isiolo Town.

The town was still reeling from Wednesday’s tension following the killing for a police reservist and the injuring of four others in a clash with bandits.

Police said they were pursuing good leads into the murder and robbery. Such incidents where riders are attacked and robbed of motorcycles have been on the rise amid efforts to solve the trend.

Most of the motorcycles are sold elsewhere. Police advice victims to cooperate with their attackers for their own safety. Elsewhere in Kathanje, Embu County, one Bernard Njugu, 25 was stabbed and killed in a fight with another man.

The assailant was later arrested by locals and handed over to the police for processing. Police said the victim was stabbed in the chest and died on arrival at a local hospital after the February 18, 2026, incident.

It is not clear what prompted the fight that turned fatal. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
