National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr Augustus Muli at a past event/HANDOUTNational Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr Augustus Muli has issued a rallying call to the Kamba community, declaring that under his leadership the region will be delivered “safely to the Promised Land.”
Muli accused successive national administrations of deliberately sidelining the region and trapping it in what he termed “poverty politics.”
He criticised both the national government and the Opposition, saying that despite their long-standing influence in Kenya’s political landscape, little meaningful development has reached the area
“The Kamba Nation, if you follow me, I will deliver you safely to the Promised Land,” Muli said, invoking biblical imagery to underscore his pledge of transformation and renewal.
He framed his leadership as a decisive break from what he described as decades of stagnation, promising to champion infrastructure growth, economic empowerment, and greater political inclusion for the region.
In a statement, Muli revealed that NLP has registered close to half a million members across the larger Ukambani region.
He said the figure demonstrates growing confidence in his leadership and signals the party’s expanding grassroots base ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“Our movement is growing because our people are tired of empty promises. They want practical solutions that uplift farmers, traders, youth, women and vulnerable groups,” he said.
Muli’s standing within the community is further bolstered by his role as patron of the influential Anzauni clan, a position that strengthens his voice and authority in local socio-political affairs.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political manoeuvring as parties reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election. The NLP is seeking to broaden its national footprint while consolidating support in its traditional strongholds.
Muli has repeatedly called on the people of Ukambani to embrace unity, accountable leadership and people-centred development. He stressed that the region’s future depends on targeted investment in key sectors and inclusive governance.
Among his stated priorities are agricultural empowerment through modern tools, access to fair markets and climate-resilient farming practices. He has also pledged to prioritise youth and women by expanding opportunities in entrepreneurship, education and leadership.
On governance, Muli has advocated for transparency and integrity in public office, arguing that accountable leadership is essential for restoring public trust. He also emphasised the need for stronger community resilience through social safety nets aimed at protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
“These pillars will ensure Ukambani thrives not only as an economic hub but also as a cultural beacon in Kenya,” he said.
At the national level, Muli issued a stern call to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), urging the electoral body to “put its house in order” ahead of the 2027 polls.
He said only a transparent and credible electoral process would inspire confidence among Kenyans, warning that the country’s democratic stability hinges on the integrity of elections.
