Kenyan musician Bahati recently met a woman identified as Judith Makokha, who has publicly claimed to be his biological mother — a development that has sparked widespread conversation online.

A Viral Plea

The matter first came to light in late 2025 when Judith shared a video appealing to the singer for forgiveness.

In the clip, she alleged that she abandoned her son years ago due to financial hardship, explaining that she lacked the means to raise him at the time.

According to her, she placed the baby in a children’s home with the hope of returning for him once she was financially stable.

Her emotional appeal quickly went viral, dividing public opinion. While some Kenyans sympathised with her story, others questioned its authenticity.

Bahati responded with caution. He maintained that he had previously seen the burial of the woman he believed to be his biological mother.

He also pointed out inconsistencies in Judith’s claims, including differences in tribal background. Having grown up identifying as Akamba, he found it difficult to reconcile that with Judith’s Luhya heritage.

However, he admitted that he felt compassion after learning that she had allegedly been trying to reach his brother for several years.

The First Meeting

Despite his doubts, Bahati agreed to meet Judith in person. During their first encounter, he reportedly bought her shopping and gave her an opportunity to narrate her version of events.

Judith explained that during her pregnancy, she was living with another woman who allegedly made it clear she could not support her and a baby under the same roof.

She said that when she travelled to Waruku, she encountered women who sympathised with her situation and offered help.

One of them allegedly advised her to place the child in a children’s institution temporarily until she regained financial stability.

She claimed that when she later returned to collect her child, she was informed that the baby was no longer there — an experience she described as heartbreaking. Insisting that she strongly believes Bahati could be her son, she requested a DNA test to confirm the truth.

Awaiting DNA Results

Bahati stated that while her account sounded sincere, he did not want to dismiss or accept it without scientific verification.

He emphasised the importance of due diligence and said they sought a credible medical facility to conduct the DNA test.

“At the moment, I have no specific expectation,” he explained, adding that he was prepared for any outcome. He noted that the results were expected within 14 days.

Bahati’s Journey

The situation has struck a chord partly because of Bahati’s well-known life story. Orphaned at a young age, the singer grew up in a children’s home before rising to fame in Kenya’s gospel music scene.

His journey from vulnerability to stardom has often been central to his public narrative.

Over the years, he has built a successful career, later transitioning into mainstream entertainment, and has shared much of his personal life with fans alongside his wife, Diana Marua.
