Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has explained why he will not cover the full 486 kilometres of his planned journey, citing safety concerns and restrictions by wildlife authorities.
Omondi said certain sections of the route pass through areas inhabited by dangerous wildlife, making it impossible to complete the entire stretch on foot.
Speaking to TV 47, Eric said that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has advised against walking through specific sections due to safety risks.
“There are places that I won't walk. There is wildlife like lions. Even the Kenya Wildlife Service will not advise passing through certain stretches on foot. They will cross me to the other side. There are about 150 kilometres of places that I cannot walk,” Eric said.
As a result, the entertainer clarified that he will cover approximately 370 kilometres on foot instead of the full 486 kilometres initially associated with the journey.
“I will cover about 370 kilometres in four days. Today I’m targeting 70 kilometres and close for the day. We shall rest in Makindu and the next day go to Mtito Andei.”
Activist Eric Omondi on Tuesday tore his ligaments in his left leg and hip during his walk from Nairobi to Mombasa.
Omondi has been walking to raise funds to build The Sisi Kwa Sisi Rescue Centre.
Speaking on his TikTok page, he said the team had been driven by “excitement, anticipation and hype” at the start of the journey.
At one point, he ran from Nyayo Stadium to Bellevue. In the early hours on Tuesday, Omondi appeared energetic and jumpy, but the physical strain soon took its toll, leaving him injured.
Despite the setback, he declared that the journey would not stop.
“We continue tomorrow,” he said, insisting that he will walk to Mombasa despite the pain. He even vowed to crawl if necessary to complete the mission.
The comedian expressed gratitude to his supporters for backing the Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, which aims to establish a rescue centre equipped with ambulances, a clinic, a warehouse and a free secondary school.
“May God bless you,” he said, acknowledging the encouragement he has received both online and on the ground.
Omondi’s TikTok page has become the main source of updates on the journey, where he continues to share his progress and determination.
The Comedian set off on an extraordinary 486-kilometre journey from Nairobi to Mombasa, determined to raise funds for a new help and rescue centre.
