Popular Kenyan musician, entrepreneur, and outspoken household name Esther Akoth Kokeyo, better known as Akothee, has officially left Kenya, marking the end of a significant chapter in her life.
In a pair of emotional Instagram posts shared recently, the local celebrity confirmed her long-teased relocation abroad, taking her last two daughters with her after a dramatic health scare that turned what was meant to be a brief pickup trip into a medical emergency.
In one post featuring a farewell message, Akothee wrote, “Akothee the calculator. Nye Kenya, me and my uterus, we appreciate the time we spent with you in Kenya.”
The quirky, heartfelt caption, punctuated with a nod to her motherhood, conveyed gratitude mixed with finality.
Fans responded with a blend of sadness and support, with comments such as “We’ll see you back here in a few. Because there is no place like home” and “We are going with you anyway,” reflecting the bittersweet reaction to her departure.
A more detailed explanation followed in a short reel in which Akothee opened up about the ordeal.
She explained that she had returned to Kenya specifically “to pick up my daughters from Kenya, the only two of my children remaining in this country.”
This echoed her earlier public statements about plans to relocate her family for better opportunities and a fresh start.
However, the trip took a painful turn almost immediately.
“Lower back pain is no joke!” she declared in the video.
Akothee described how severe pain struck after landing, saying, “Something was pressing on her spinal cord, making it impossible to lift her left leg.”
She added that she experienced “unbearable discomfort” and “excessive bleeding.”
Upon arriving in Nairobi, she walked into a hotel reception seeking help but soon required a wheelchair. She was later taken to a city hospital, where she received medical care.
“I am out of danger now,” she said.
Akothee’s relocation removes a larger-than-life figure from Kenya’s entertainment and entrepreneurship landscape.
From her bold music and the Akothee Foundation’s philanthropic work to safari ventures and unfiltered social commentary, she has inspired many while often dividing opinion.
As she embarks on this new chapter abroad, Akothee signed off with love for her supporters, writing, “I love you my fans and stay safe.”
