The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has recovered a high-end, unregistered Mercedes-Benz reported stolen from a garage in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area.

Police said investigations are ongoing to trace suspects linked to the incident.

Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) in the Nairobi Region, working with officers from Gigiri and Imbirikani police stations, recovered the vehicle after it was tracked along Mombasa Road in Kajiado South Sub-County.

According to police, the luxury vehicle had been booked into a Spring Valley garage for a paint job on January 30, 2026.

It was later reported missing after both the vehicle and the garage watchman could not be located.

The watchman’s mobile phone was switched off, prompting police to circulate the vehicle as stolen.

Investigators said forensic leads enabled them to trace the Mercedes-Benz as it was being driven along the busy highway.

A police roadblock was mounted by officers from Imbirikani Police Station, where the vehicle was intercepted.

However, the occupants fled on foot as officers moved in to verify the vehicle’s details, escaping into nearby thickets and heading towards Oltiasika and Nosilale villages.

No arrests were made at the scene.

A subsequent inspection confirmed that the vehicle matched the description of the one reported stolen.

Police said the car had been tampered with and fitted with a false front registration in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.

The vehicle has since been seized and escorted back to Nairobi as investigations continue.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals involved.

Authorities have urged members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or contact law enforcement through confidential channels.

This comes as detectives continue a nationwide operation targeting stolen mobile phones and the networks behind such thefts.

Police said officers were pursuing a suspect believed to be involved in a mobile phone theft ring.

Two alleged accomplices were arrested last week, during which dozens of stolen mobile phones reportedly destined for the Ugandan market were recovered.

Investigators said forensic leads linked the suspect to the recovered devices, prompting a targeted operation to trace his location.

Detectives tracked him to a hideout in the California area of Kamukunji Sub-County.

However, police said the suspect fled on a motorcycle after detecting the presence of officers, evading arrest.

During the escape, the suspect dropped a black carrier bag, which detectives recovered. Upon inspection, officers found three packages wrapped in yellow cellotape containing a total of 62 mobile phones reported to be stolen.

The recovered phones were secured as exhibits, and investigations are ongoing.
