Police are investigating an incident where a night guard was hacked to death while his two colleagues were injured in a robbery at a godown in Athi River, Machakos County.

The guard was identified as Patrick Chepkwony. He was with his two colleagues when they were attacked by a gang of about 15 on Sunday dawn at the godown, police said.

The gang beat them indiscriminately before tying their hands and legs and leaving them in a room.

They then stole a laptop, a desktop, and new CCTV cameras that were to be installed there.

The three were found in the room by other colleagues who were reporting for work and rushed to the hospital, where the victim succumbed while being attended to, police said.

The gang had by then escaped. The other guards were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt for the attackers.

Meanwhile, a fire killed a 51-year-old in his house in Maua, Meru County.

The man was identified as Morris Kunguta. Police said they were yet to establish the cause of the fire, which also burnt down his house. The remains of the man were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

And a suspect died in hospital after being stoned by a mob in the Dago area, Kisumu County.

This was after he was accused of being a thief. Police said they are investigating the incident, which is the latest in a series of others reported so far in the country.
