A blood clot in the lungs caused the death of Umoja gym trainer Alphy Migasha, an autopsy has revealed.
It is believed the clot formed following a fracture he sustained in an assault at a club on December 22, 2025.
He succumbed to the injuries at home on January 17, 2026.
His family said he vomited blood before dying. He had visited the hospital to treat a fractured leg sustained in the assault by a known suspect.
Chief government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor conducted the postmortem at the City Mortuary and confirmed that the blood clot caused the death.
“The blood clot travelled to the lung, causing death. We believe it emanated from a leg injury he had,” he said.
The family said Migasha sustained the injury during the fight. They are demanding the arrest of a suspect linked to his death.
Police at Buruburu Police Station said the next step is to track the suspect for questioning and prosecution.
CCTV footage captured on December 22 shows Migasha seated outside a liquor joint in Umoja One estate.
Moments later, a man approaches, confronts him, and assaults him. Witnesses tried to intervene, but the attacker continued to beat Migasha before walking away, leaving him in pain. The motive remains unknown.
The family was alerted and rushed him to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained serious injuries, including fractured ribs, a broken leg, and chest injuries.
He was placed on medication while the family reported the incident to Buruburu Police Station.
Buruburu DCI head Simon Kirui assured the family that police are actively handling the case and will take action soon.
Cases of assault that turn fatal have been on the rise, prompting authorities to caution the public. Police say the reported cases are currently under investigation.
